Interested in the Creative Industries?

Come and join Lancaster alumni to hear journalist and author, Damian Barr (Sociology,1998 & 2000, Bowland) and former VP International of Sony MG, now MD of Phantom Music Management, Dave Shackleton (History & Politics,1988, Fylde) talk about life working in the world of writing, journalism and music!

The event will take place at Level 6, Foyles' flagship bookstore's event venue nestled above five floors of books, a gallery and a cafe, where you can come to enjoy two entertaining talks, drinks, snacks and the chance to chat with others who share an interest in the creative industries.

Damian Barr

Damian Barr

Damian Barr is a writer, columnist and playwright. His acclaimed memoir, Maggie & Me, won the Sunday Times Memoir of the Year and saw him named Stonewall Writer of the Year. He writes columns for the Big Issue and the Sunday Times and has written for the Daily Telegraph, Financial Times, Guardian and Independent. He is creator and host of his own Literary Salon whose alumni include David Nicholls and Diana Athill. He regularly appears on BBC Radio 4, usually as a presenter or critic on Front Row.

Dave Shack

Shack

Dave Shackleton – as he was known at Lancaster - worked as a freelance rock journalist with Kerrang! when he was a student before gaining a full-time job with Metal Forces after graduation. After a stint at BBC Radio 1, he joined BMG Records and then Sony where he worked for 23 year in Marketing, Promotion & International eventually becoming a Vice-President. He left in 2013 and is now MD of Phantom Music, Iron Maiden’s Management Company.
